We often feel unmotivated in life due to many reasons and look for quick fixes to gain our motivation back. In this article, we will discuss the root cause of feeling unmotivated and find a permanent solution.
You Know This..!
The answer comes from what we all say in the Ardaas (humble request): Nanak Naam Chardi Kala, Tere Bhane Sarbat Daa Bhala. It means that the Naam (connection to the Divine) brings Chardi Kala (high spirits) in us and with Vaheguru’s blessings, goodness comes to all. From Naam, we get Chardikala. The motivation is going out of you because of the depression. Depression kills your motivation.
So, if you remove that disease of feeling down, motivation will still be fine. In reality, you haven't lost motivation, you have gotten depressed. Don't try to increase motivation. Instead, try to get rid of the depression. Naam (connection to the Divine) solves depression. Reciting God’s Name, Reading the Guru’s Words, Being in the holy company that contemplates on God makes you forget about the depression. Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji in the following Shabad says:
ਜੋ ਨਰੁ ਦੁਖ ਮੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਨਹੀ ਮਾਨੈ ॥
That man, who in the midst of pain, does not feel pain,
that the person who leaves desires, pains, pleasures, money, anger, lust, etc. is the kind of person that Guru Ji is trying to make us. The only way for us to become what they want us to become is through Naam. So, solve the depression using Naam and hopefully the motivation won't even be a problem.
We all love a Story..
One Singh recently kept his Kes (uncut hair). His whole family, including him, wore turbans and trimmed their beards. Now this Singh keeps his Daaraa (beard) and starts doing Paatth (recital of Gurbani). That's a big change for his family, so they asked him what happened. He said, “One day, I woke up in the morning and did Japji Sahib. That day, I got so much work done, even though I thought that I was going to get less done since I lost some time doing Paatth. But I got more done, so I realized that Naam is really powerful and good for us. Then I just kept my Daaraa as well.” So, he's worked out that the Guru Sahib is a doctor and is trying to help us and it’s not the other way round where Guru Sahib is trying to give us more work!
Paath ramps up Productivity!
Imagine, you're somebody in a busy world and you are starting to get more work to do and you think that I haven't got time for Paatth. That person doesn't realize what Paatth will do to them.
If they start to do Paatth, they'll get more done with less time.
How much time do we really waste through every day? We are on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, T.V, etc. We waste so much time in the day and could measure how much time we're productive on our fingers. Maybe we're productive for like 15 minutes in the whole day. Maybe half an hour, if someone is lucky then maybe an hour. So, imagine if you could be productive for two hours because you were motivated and not depressed, the Dukh (suffering) wasn't there. That’s where the Guru and Gurbani are trying to take us. The only question is, if you are ready to come along!
