surveyed our Sikh community to find out how many could remember Punjabi Numbers. Interestingly enough, 2 out of 3 people surveyed either do not know the numbers or struggle to remember them. I attended Punjabi/Gurmat school from a young age, and it was always motivating for me to recite numbers 1 -100 and make my teacher proud of me. To do so, I learned a way to memorize them using sounds. It is pretty simple, and I hope this helps you!
Step 1: Memorize 1-10 and the tens- 10,20,30,40,50 etc
Step 2: Pay attention to and memorize the end sound of the ‘tens’ – Vee, Tee, Chalee, Panjha
Step 3: Combine the sounds of 1-10 numbers to the sounds of tens
