Taking strength from Shaheeds | Bhai Avtar Singh Parowal
There's no 'on button' for chardi-kala (high spirits). A Sikh isn't chardi-kala by magic - they work and practise it every day. In celebration of Guru Arjan Dev Ji's Shaheedi Divas, Bhai Baljit Singh shares sakhia from Guru Ji's life, showing the external challenges they had and how their whole life was a build up to the chardi-kala of their Shaheedi (martyrdom). Drawing parallels to the Battle of Amritsar in June 1984, with inspiration, we learn about the life of Bhai Avtar Singh Parowal, who on 6th June 1984, even after being shot through the legs, continued to do Kirtan in Sri Darbar Sahib. No matter what we're going through in life, if we can take out a moment, draw strength from our powerful history and really say the Guru's words, ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਆ ਮੀਠਾ ਲਾਗੈ ॥ (Your actions seem so sweet to me), we can make active steps towards a life filled with chardi-kala. It takes practise, so stick at it! Listen on SoundCloud:
